I know its in Belgium but I would go to Ypres/Ieper - so much to see and do in the immediate area and the wonderful town of Bruges a short drive away if you need to recuperate from WW1.

Which war are you meaning?

If 2nd WW I would aim for somewhere around Bayeux

We wanted to see the Somme battlefields, and also the Thiepval Memorial.  As AD suggests, we based ourselves near Albert.  We stayed on a small site within walking distance of the Thiepval Memorial.  If I remember correctly the site was called Camping Bellevue and was in a village called Authuille?

Take a box of tissues. It can be a bit emotional.

Very emotional CY ..... especially when I found the name of my relative on the Thiepval Memorial.  I knew it was there, but actually seeing his name amongst all of the thousands of other names ...... Sad

We stayed at the municipal at Albert, a really good site, I think it was called "velodrome". A Dutch couple on the next pitch advised us to take plenty of tissues and take plenty of time to weep when we told them we were going to Thiepval. Good advice indeed.

If you want to visit Thiepval the carpark is large enough to park your MH for the visit (not overnight).  We parked our caravan for about 3 hours whilst we visited the memorial and museum.

I found my own name on the Thiepval memorial. The real spooky bit was that the poor chap died on my birthday.
