Yes. Go to My profile at the top of the page and you’ll be able to alter all sorts of things including your user name.

I am pretty sure that originally you could select your own user name when joining but somewhere along the line they changed to the current rather impersonal system. But, as TW, points out you are free to change it. Welcome BTW.

Didn't seemed to have worked at first, but I suspect it was a server catching up somewhere. Seems fine now.
