Towing a scooter

We are hoping to take our moped on holiday this year and wanted to put it on a side loading trailer.  Has anyone out there got one of these?? Are they recommended?

We wanted to see one before we purchased but we are in West Sussex and the only two places that seem to sell them are in the North of the country.  Does anyone have one that we could possibly come and see?

Thank you for your help!!

Give the manufacturers up North a call. They can often put you in touch with a customer who will let you see theirs.

Are you talking about a pukkah two-wheeled 'trailer', or towing the moped with its back wheel on the road, or a rear mounted transverse carrier (like a gutter) that holds the moped up off the road?

All three types are available.

The question is about the trailer, LL, which is clearly going to be towed by the MH.

HE, there are a few threads about towing in the MH section but I don’t recall anything about the type of trailer you describe. Can you post a link or picture so we can gain a better idea of what you have in mind?

You, presumably, have already established that your MH is capable of towing the combined load of trailer and bike and that includes checking your back axle weight. Alternatively, if you're talking about a m/cycle lift attached to the rear of the van, you will need to consider payload as well as axle weight limits.

You can indeed get a side loading trailer or platform type that fit on the rear of a mh.

We have seen lots of them on our travels. They usually fit onto a tow ball though some are part and parcel of a tow bar assembly.

I think PWS have one and possibly Thule, Armitage also used to make one, may still do.

When we had a large scooter we had a trailer made for it as it was too heavy to go across the rear.

The weight on the rear axle is the problem unless it is supported by wheels, some of the larger mh's can manage but many cannot.
