Silly site prices. Off season and peak season

I have looked at the latest handbook to book a site.  Prices are not clear ... There is no guidance, as there was in the past, as to off season / peak season pricing.  Is all pricing now charged at peak season rates? Go online .. No mention of differential prices as you book.

So the only way I can find how much a site will cost is to go through the booking process, then I will get a price, then I can decide if I can afford it or not.

for Example

I looked at the Bladon Chains site ... Page 149. A bargain at "from £7.90 a night, for one adult and pitch.  It's open from 01 March.  I decided to book from 01 March ... Surely this is must be low season, my experience tells me that this is the case. But I wanted too  book two adults, so I wonder how much this will cost??  Perhaps, at the very most, my wildest guess, at the most 2 X £7.90.  Perhaps £16 a night.  No it can't be that much ... The site has only just opened, so it must be off season.  Proceed to book it  £179.20 for 8 nights. £22.40 a night for 2 people!! There is no breakdown of the pricing on the email confirmation.

In the wildest imagination of consumer rip offs, "I could not believe it"!  How can you get from £7.90 to £22.40 by adding one person.  How do I find when I can go by myself for £7.90?

This seems to me the most opaque pricing structure you could possibly get.  I thought transparency was the new watch-word in consumer relations!

I booked, but will be chasing this up to find out WHY., The silly price declaration. (Would it have been cheaper to book 2 pitches with one person on each?). I don't expect I will get a sensible answer over the phone tomorrow.... But I have given the 'powers that be' a chance to formulate a response, in advance.

Watch this space!

I am booked at Bladon Chains again  for one night this year at a price of £23.70, as I never consider  not having EHU my own fault for not looking but  the discovery that I am paying £6.10 for the privilege is quite shocking. This is way over what I have ever paid elsewhere and if it was for more than 1 night I would seriously think about alternatives.

It's quite obvious the club is missing a trick here as they could be even more devious and market the best price as £8.90 for pitch and 1 adult.laughing

I looked at 3 or 4 nights at Bladon Chains for part of a trip in March and decided against it at £22.40.  I also couldn't believe that price in March.  As for a non-EHU pitch, I did look at that as we don't need it for a few nights, but guess what?  None available in March or April.  Presumably these are on grass?  Although I'd have expected grass pitches to be in use in April.  Yet the price grid quotes the non-EHU price for the period of March and April at £1.50.

No use advertising the non-EHU pitches if you can't get one!

To get back to the topic ....

As I said earlier, the price we paid per night last week  on a Club site (less than £18) was perfectly acceptable. I was very surprised to find that we will have to pay around £5 more pn early in March. Still considering cancelling. But as it is for few nights only we might stump up.

People may well be prepared to pay those prices, that a choice they make,  but I think they don't represent good value at all and will re-think future bookings while we are using UK sites.

Why don't you cancel then??

Anyone who intends using primarily Club Sites needs to contact Club and ask for a prices booklet to be sent out. It’s all in there, every possible pricing conundrum the Club can dream up. Shame so many of the sites remain closed until mid March.

Membership is sadly getting less value for money each year as far as we are concerned. It’s still the access to CL network that keeps us paying up, little else nowadays.

Strangely enough the web site quotes from £8 at Bladon Chains but the actual basic price is £8.90 (one adult non ehu.) So which is right the book or the web site? Looks like they are both wrong!

Prices "from" are ok as long as they are correct. frown

No, the £8 quoted online is correct.

From 28/10/19 till 3/11/19 the adult fee is £6.50, non electric pitch is £1.50.

I missed that last one KJ, thanks, but I wonder if a grass pitch will be available late Oct/earlyNov,  I doubt it!

Mmm, I wondered that too.

There are a lot of grass pitches at Bladon, that and the prices these days are why we have not used it in many years.

On looking, the non electric pitches seem only to be available from the  beginning of May till the end of September, so the £8 pitch would never be available.

Now that is surely false advertising!

And the site plan shows only one economy  pitch, but shows it as a hardstanding on the pitch guide but grass on the plan.

Oh dear!
