Silly site prices. Off season and peak season

I have looked at the latest handbook to book a site.  Prices are not clear ... There is no guidance, as there was in the past, as to off season / peak season pricing.  Is all pricing now charged at peak season rates? Go online .. No mention of differential prices as you book.

So the only way I can find how much a site will cost is to go through the booking process, then I will get a price, then I can decide if I can afford it or not.

for Example

I looked at the Bladon Chains site ... Page 149. A bargain at "from £7.90 a night, for one adult and pitch.  It's open from 01 March.  I decided to book from 01 March ... Surely this is must be low season, my experience tells me that this is the case. But I wanted too  book two adults, so I wonder how much this will cost??  Perhaps, at the very most, my wildest guess, at the most 2 X £7.90.  Perhaps £16 a night.  No it can't be that much ... The site has only just opened, so it must be off season.  Proceed to book it  £179.20 for 8 nights. £22.40 a night for 2 people!! There is no breakdown of the pricing on the email confirmation.

In the wildest imagination of consumer rip offs, "I could not believe it"!  How can you get from £7.90 to £22.40 by adding one person.  How do I find when I can go by myself for £7.90?

This seems to me the most opaque pricing structure you could possibly get.  I thought transparency was the new watch-word in consumer relations!

I booked, but will be chasing this up to find out WHY., The silly price declaration. (Would it have been cheaper to book 2 pitches with one person on each?). I don't expect I will get a sensible answer over the phone tomorrow.... But I have given the 'powers that be' a chance to formulate a response, in advance.

Watch this space!

The C&CC discount is currently £6.50 , the C&MC is much less and is one of the most miserly. I have seen it as much as £10 but if site owners are honest about the future increases, the discounts will get even higher. Those off grid sites and those with meters can just carry on as normal and surely will become more popular? If you hav refillable gas tanks the price is not that bad. I paid 72.9p a litre last Friday.

My best estimate of gas used when off grid is 3 litres per day costing about £2.20. It is therefore much cheaper than paying for electricity in the summer months. In the winter there probably isn't a lot of difference.

That’s closer to £6.50 for a Calor user, so little incentive for them. I’m certainly glad I opted for a Gaslow system when we bought our MH.

Peedee, I filled my tank after 9 days at Weymouth and used 10 litres. So, I would say just over a litre a day. We used hot water, but have switched to 40 deg in summer which takes no time to get upto and still fine for showers.
fridge on gas but is obviously pretty efficient.

I think the non EHU movement will grow fast in the future purely as a way to lessen the financial burden which can only be a good thing👍🏻

Here’s a sobering statistic for anyone looking to use a Club Site, but do it with the option using a non EHU pitch. I have just checked through all thirteen of Yorkshire’s varied Club Sites, (large, small, coastal, moorland, town and city based. Old and New.)

There isn’t a single non EHU pitch on any of the Sites. So clearly the Club isn’t giving any visitors to Yorkshire, wanting to use a Club Site, any option whatsoever. Everyone books a pitch with a bollard, and you pay the price as though you are hooked up.

(It was a quick check, so if someone else finds such a pitch, (other than a tent pitch) I stand corrected.)

The Club’s current mantra is “you can have a choice, but the choice is ours”

The going rate here in Cornwall on privately owned sites is something like £4 a day extra if you choose to use the hook up. It’s quite common to be offered the choice. Court Farm near St Austell with 30 pitches is an example.

You are probably nearer the mark YT, I had forgotten I had 6 days on hook up as well as 7 off after I refilled. The next refill I had last Friday was with 18.62lts. I cook and heat hot water with gas when on EHU (electric heating currently not working), therefore if I ignore the fridge being on electric for those 6 days it works out at 1.4 litres per day. So for me it is more likely closer to 2 litres per day in the summer but I still think it is about even in the winter based on 8 to 10 litres per day.

PS it is not recommended you heat hot water under 55 degrees due to the likelyhood of introducing legionella into the system.

I suppose there has to be a tipping point somewhere when the Club has to either accept that site prices will continue to spiral upwards because of the cost of energy and start to really put people off, or introducing metering, where members can decide for themselves how much they spend on energy. I think I would be surprised if they introduced non EHU as an option, where EHU already exists, because it would have to be policed? The Club were asked at the last AGM about metering and they sat on the fence a bit but clearly they have not ruled it out, might be interesting to know if their view has changed in the last 12 months?

They definitely didn’t rule metering out and I’m sure I’ve seen something since this Q&A that suggested they are moving towards metering.

DK, If Club members are so dishonest that they would use a hook up when they haven’t paid for it then the warden would have to open the bollard and take out the fuse or circuit breaker. No more policing needed. But elsewhere I was always asked whether I wanted to use the hook up beside the pitch - and trusted.

That's at the moment, probably because there are so few non-EHU pitches, but should the system change then there could be many more willing to do without EHU and save some money.

Our van pre-dates the standard fitting of solar panels,  but now thinking we should look at getting a decent one fitted, we have available payload.

Prices are rising all round, having gone from Club sites to CLs, now  even some of them are asking £25+  with EHU ,  and most at least £20, so time to consider off grid.

I hope they bring it in asap so at least the inclusive v metering threads can cease.
