has anyone out there had any trouble with the electric bed operation, it jams when going up or down??

Hi Steve, I have an elddis 196 with a electric drop down bed which I had an issue, it would not go back up when pressing the button. The problem was the bed sheets were pressing the limit switch down stopping the bed from going back up.

Hi Doug,Thanks for the reply, but this is a bit more technical we booked it in with Davan caravans in somerset they had it for 2 weeks and made a mess of my van stained the  curtains left screws out blew a 20 amp fuse and misdiagnosed the fault then decided to call it a day and charged us over £200 for labour!!!!  If there is anybody in the club contemplating repairs with them DONT.

Steve, there's a nice chap on the Motorhome FUN Forum who had the same problem as you. He had a huge number of issues with his Pilote P716 electric bed and the only way he solved it was by getting rid of the van.

He never found the problem albeit he did have a couple of dealers look at the bed mechanism. One person mentioned that there is a secret reset button in the control panel but after finding the button it seemed that it wouldn't help coax the bed down either.

He goes by the name QFour on the FUN Forum and I know he would be very keen to help you regarding his time with the P716.

Cheers,

Andrew

Drop down beds with electric motors are prone to failure. The reasons are varied and include the two motors [if you have two] not being correctly synchronised, too much weight on the bed so the gubbins thinks you are trying to trap a child against the roof, and underpowered motors that give up the ghost quite quickly.

My manual tells me that to reset my drop down bed [I don't have a Pilote] I have just to press the up and down button simultaneously. The manual also tells me how to raise/lower the bed without the motors.

I suspect the Davan technicians have not been trained on Pilotes and are jacks of all makes. The best Pilote dealer in my view is Hayes in the Midlands. Bit further to travel perhaps but might be worth a call.

Hi Steve, I hope this link works. It's in the Pilote area of the Continental van section.

The author of the thread is the man to chat with.

If it is driven by two motors, does the bed look level? As stated they can lose sych at which point they stop. I have found the solution is to unplug one motor and drive the remaining one to level then reconnect the other motor and it is fine until sync is lost again.

Hi Peedee

Thanks for the info,am planning to take both the cupboards down including any other woodwork to expose the mechanical pivoting arms and both the rams, will disconnect the piston ends of the rams and attempt to get both pistons equal on end of the  travel, will level the bed and connect the pistons am booked in with the dealer that sold it to me, so if it doesnt work at least I can save a bit on labour costs when they look at it. Thanks to all of you for your help,am determined to get it fixed!!!

We're having some problems with our electric drop-down bed and wondered if steve8495 is still active on here as it sounds like he may have learnt some useful things! We are also on Motorhomefun but couldn't find Steve or the member QFour who was mentioned above.
