Newly arrived here after years in tents

Hello, we've joined the CC even before getting our first box on wheels, as one way of finding out more, and have already learned much from reading forum posts here.

We're in our 60's, and have holidayed in tents since ever, mostly round the UK, and France from time to time.

Now we think we've settled on the caravan we're hoping to buy, a small pop-top 2 berth, as long as proper inspection & engineer's report go well.

Looking forward to a new type of holidays - hoping we still get most of the freedom of tenting without the faff of packing away wet canvas at the end, and to going at colder times of year too. Plan A is a trip round the Scottish N Coast next Spring.

Meanwhile I'm about to post some of those questions new people always ask, and hope patient people here are happy to answer!

Best wishes,

Richard

Welcome, Richard. You'll find various sections for posting questions and there's generally somebody around with an answer.

Hi, Richard. We also tented for years before buying our 1st caravan. Never regretted the change, if nothing else, 'vanning really extends the holiday season. Enjoy!

Hi Richard.  Welcome to Club Together and the Caravan Club.  The best of luck with your search for a caravan.  I'm sure you'll enjoy it when it comes.  I would guess that most of us probably got to caravanning via the tent route.  Do let us know how you get on with it all.

I camped in UK and France with a frame tent more years ago than I care to remember. The top of Scotland is quite something. It's also a bit nearer for you than me.  Welcome to CT.

We tried a frame tent for a few years, but got fed up with it - too flappy in strong winds, and filled too much car by comparison with ridge tents, when we had two daughters on board as well. The ridge tent survived tougher weather, too. Now the girls have moved on, we have a lovely Cabanon Biscaya tent, like a sort of large Anderson shelter,  which would have been ideal for all four, and we love it once it's up, and love it once it's packed away afterwards, just not so much during the packing, and potentially also the drying out stage in the garden!

Welcome to the forum. We started out with a tent before moving on to a caravan over 30 years ago. At that time caravans were probably more basic than tents are now so the transition was fairly straightforward. Things have changed so if you have a query just ask as there is very little the people on here do not know or have experienced.
