Hi all, we are a retired (fairly active) couple brand new to motorhoming.

So far we have only had a coup[e of weeks in the Norfolk Broads - Loved it.

We are looking to see in the New Year in Scotland.  Edinburgh area ??

Any recommendations or tips welcome.

Lin and Lang

Welcome to CT linandlang. If you're thinking of the New Year you'll need to book asap, many sites book up quickly. There are big Hogmanay celebrations in Edinburgh but you'll need to book tickets for the city centre.

Hello and welcome to our great hobby and CT.  So glad you're enjoying your motorhome.

I can only echo Brue comment above about booking asap. Do let us know what you manage to book.

I see that the Club's Edinburgh's site is fully booked for the New Year weekend, and I'd guess that there's a waiting list too. Have a look on UK Sites website for other's in the area, and get ringing round.

It's also possible to go on a waiting list for the Edinburgh site, we nearly got there one year but had to cancel at the last moment. Here's the link for buying tickets for all the Hogmanay events, you'll also need transport to get there as the streets are closed.

What about looking at rallies? Do you belong to the other club too? If you rally you may not have EHU so you'll need to be happy without it. I wish you luck, you may just have to settle for being on site without partying 😉

There are some nice Hogmanay gatherings in a lot of the small towns and villages, you might be lucky and find space on a site or CL near one of them. The rally idea is a good one, the centres often make their own New Year celebrations. Hope you find something. smile

Lin and Lang.    You might like to try booking a CL close to Edinburgh.  CL's are the 'hidden gems' of the Club network and are restricted to just 5 vans per site.  Consequently they are much less busy (visitor-wise) than the larger club sites.

You can search for CL's (using criteria suitable to you) on the Club website under 'Book a Certificated Location' which is slightly mis-named as you can find CL's but will need to book direct with the site owner.

2 sites that accept motorhomes, have hardstanding, electric and are open all year near Edinburgh are;
22 Damhead
Lothianburn, Edinburgh, City of Edinburgh, Scotland
Slatebarns
Roslin, City of Edinburgh, Scotland

Read the Reviews on each one and make your choice, then book direct with the owner..

Have fun in your new motorhome..
