Hello, just wanted to intro ourselves. My wife and I are late coming into caravanning but have taken the plunge and bought just prior to lockdown. We’re really looking forward to exploring the UK, mainly Southern England to start with. Having never done this with our own caravan, we have two nights at our local site to get used to the do’s and don’t’s. Any tips would be welcome.

Sorry if this sounds obvious but think about things such as basic utilities: so for example, do you have two fresh water tanks? We soon found that there's nothing worse than being half-way through washing up or showering and the tanks runs dry - a spare means a quick change-over without running to replenish the tank urgently. Sorry if that sounded too obvious!

Welcome to CT Ali.
We're at the other end of the great caravanning experience, having decided to sell our last van at the end of last year. But we've been touring the UK, camping and vanning for the last 40+ years. I won't attempt to give you any specific advice here, other than to say that if you need help on site, don't be worried about asking - everyone has tales to tell about how they started out and tips on how to make the life a great one.
If you want any recommendations for sites though, especially the small CLs, ask away - there's a wealth of experience on this forum.

Welcome to caravanning and CT, and it’s never too late to start.
Regarding the 2 water container suggestion, we’ve only ever had 1 X 40 litre Aquaroll, and never had a problem. Occasionally we use a serviced pitch and link the Aquaroll to the tap with the relevant extension hose. If you want to do this, but still have access to the tap to draw fresh water, for example into a jug for drinking, you can get a tap splitter (sometimes available in caravan stores, but always in garden centres). Although we use water from the caravan for all cooking, making hot drinks, washing ourselves and pots & pans, cleaning teeth etc., I always like to have water straight from the mains for drinking. Others have different ideas, and it’s a personal choice.
Expect to make mistakes and for things to not go to plan. We still have the odd problem after 15 years of, first having a motor caravan, then a caravan, but it hasn’t put us off. Also, if you need help on site, just ask. Most will be happy to help, but might be reticent about offering. Just like here on CT, you’ll get a variety of opinions and advice 😂
