Good afternoon. We are in our early 60’s and have just bought a caravan for the first time. We chose a used Lunar Quasar from a dealer because of the light weight. (We have a Citroan C3 Picasso so we can’t tow anything heavier). We live in North Yorkshire.

We collect on 31 July. The dealer is doing a full service, damp test and offering 12 months warranty. We also got a starter pack included with most things we will need and there are two new tyres.

We are learning as much as we can before our first trip, which is only 6 miles from home for 2 nights. We wanted to test out everything before going on a longer trip.

We have bought a small inflatable awning, we are buying the lightest household stuff and equipment we can find to keep our payload down.

We have joined the club and booked some short trips in northern England for August and September and a longer trip to Scotland for October.

Any advice you can offer will be gratefully received.

thanks

Do other people here think that while the dealer's doing the damp test & offering a warranty, it might be a good thing to also get an independent engineer to run a damp test?

Your dealer might well be completely straight, and hopefully is so. The tame engineer our dealer had working for him did a damp test which he claimed was independent and thorough, but it was far from the whole picture. The truly independent engineer's test we paid for was much more useful, as it included the parts our guy's tame engineer had quietly left out.

Enjoy your caravan, and have a great time :-)

I have to say hedge that my thoughts were running along the same lines before I saw your post. Welcome to the club seasidenana .We all wish you many happy years of caravanning. However, you need to get off to the very best start you can and as Hedgehurst says, it’s probably OK but I would definitely get an independent test done on the van. Ending up with a damp van will wreck your dreams before you get started. It happens believe me! All the very best to you and yours.
