Hi everyone I just wanted to take a few moments to say hi from me (Liam) and my partner Lizi.

recently just bought a custom 5th wheel motor caravan and we are so excited to get exploring the UK.

we are both young only 26, I have done bit of touring myself but never have I been a member of the club so cant wait to try all the lovely sites and meet like mined people on the way.

so our first trip is planned for august, rough route is over 2 weeks and will include: Pembrokeshire, snowdonia, chester, dales, whitby, york and home. if anyone has recommendations for sites on route please don't be shy. cant wait to read up on some of the posts on here for tips, hope to chat to as many like minded people as possible who share the touring bug.

best wishes

Liam N Lizi

To be perfectly frank, LnL, I think you are going to have great difficulty trying to use that unit on C&MC sites. You might fare better on C&CC or privately owned sites.

With regards to seeing it on site, I've no problem with it at all. Sites are to be used and aren't there for their aesthetic beauty. Having said that, I would find it intimidating and overbearing to have a unit of that size parked next to me on a typical club site. However, I doubt very much that will happen as the majority of normal size pitches simply won't cater for it.

I'm sorry if that sounds harsh but you did ask and I think a hefty dose of realism is needed especially concerning the use of club sites. I wish you good luck and hope you enjoy your travels.

Evening all, I don't think your been harsh or anti 5th wheel Tinwheeler everybody is aloud an opinion. I might of mentioned before I use a app called 5th wheel friendly sites which gives you a map of Europe with all the suitable sites and I was shocked at how many CC sites it has on there but at least I know I can fit on the sites listed. Loving the pictures I think they would of spent 3-4 times what I did haha but it looks lovely. I will try contacting the warden at thetford forest site for more info thanks for the tip 👍

Luckily I have lots of room to seat people and Lizi makes a cracking cuppa as I feel we may have visitors 😂

Many thanks

LnL, the warden at Thetford is called Keith Fiddy and he sometimes posts on here but I don't think either of the 5th wheelers in the pics posted by N1805 are Keith's.

The pitch that the larger of the two units is on looks to be a bigger than average pitch with more space than usual between it and its neighbour. There is a cone placed on it presumably by the warden to reserve it for the extra large unit. Several sites will have large pitches but only one or two of them per site which is why you would be wise to ring in advance to make sure they can accommodate your van. Each site has its own page on the website with a max length indicated which should help. The normal size pitches are very unlikely to suit and would also put you fairly close to your neighbour which is what I was getting at earlier when I spoke of a typical club site.

Whilst speaking to Sandringham warden at the time of our stay he told us there was a unit on site belonging to a club warden.  Having seen posts here on CT by a warden with an avatar truck unit we guessed it was the one with the cone as that was the only one which had the truck cab with it 1 day.  IMHO cone most probably put there to warn people not to walk under that area of the unit.

You're right, N. I've just found a photo taken at Thetford and  that is Keith's trailer and Smart.
