Has anyone used the Elizabeth Line from Abbey Wood, we are at Abbey Wood CMC for the week when the rail strike is planned and we have 2 days when we have theatre bookings, I understand the new Elizabeth line may not be part of the strike, interested to hear if anyone has used this service

My reading of this is that, so far, workers at 13 train operators have voted to strike on 21, 23 and 25 June, but, currently, this does not include those on the Elizabeth Line, operated by Crossrail (MTR Corporation). It goes without saying that this could change, but my guess is that this line will be immune; I could be wrong! wink

I have not used the Elizabeth Line yet. They were running when I was at Abbey Wood earlier this year, but only for trials and tests. It looks really great and much quicker than SouthEastern trains if you want only to get to central London. I think the limit is still, currently,  Paddington - rather than onwards to Reading - but not 100% sure about that.

If all else fails there is the alternative of the bus but it does take over an hour and there is one change. The attraction of the Elizabeth Line is the speed over the old system. An another alternative is the take the bus to Greenwich and then get on the Thames Clipper into Central London. The last Clipper leave Embankment at 22.45, you would need to check the bus times from Greenwich back to Abbey Wood. The bus stop is nearer to the site than the train station. For oldies like me I can of course use my bus pass on the bus but as I don't live in London I can't use it on the train.

We are due to stay at Abbey Wood in September to visit The Tower Of London. We’d really appreciate advice on if The Elizabeth Line goes there and if so, which station we get off please 🀞 We don’t know London at all, thanks 🀷‍β™€οΈπŸ˜‚

Hi, it looks to me that the closest Elizabeth Line Station within walking distance of the tower is Liverpool Street Station. If that is not close enough for you, from there you can catch the Circle Line tube to Tower Hill Station.

Or follow my suggestion above and use the Thames Clipper along the Thames from Greenwich to the Tower of London. If you have time on your stay there is lots to do in Greenwich, Cutty Sark, Royal Observatory, National Maritime Museum and the Old Royal Naval College.

One thing to note, which I did not know until today, is that the Elizabeth Line will not run on Sundays until later this year.

No idea what later this year means!

Thanks for reporting back. It has been the most exciting of engineering projects.
