Club pitch prices

I am finding actual club pitch prices way too high and unjustified. The club use the excuse that electricity costs are high. This does not stack up when other privately owned parks offering equal quality and facilities for much less. I personally am no longer using club sites as I feel I am being overcharged. The whole idea of paying a club membership fee is to get reasonably priced pitching. As it turns out we pay an annual fee plus expensive pitch fee. The only reason I now maintain membership is to access CL's some of which are very comparable to main club sites but much cheaper.

I really think Camc should make their clubsite prices more realistic. For instance Chatsworth £55.00 per night for 2 adults no extras.

Probably correct although choosing a pitch provider for me is down to finding one that I feel gives me VFM the same as any other type of ‘shopping’ I do. I find I now think of CAMC as just another pitch provider rather than a club.

I would agree with that. The CAMC would have been our default provider when they had their USP. Now the other club is first on the list, then CAMC followed by others. However, for us it isn’t just about money, the site has to be where we want to be, not 20 miles away. For us that factor weighs as much on the VFM scale as GBP.

The club did do offers before the new system, they were better than currently in my opinion. Mid week discount and kids free or £1 are two I remember.

The other offer that I found good, was the sites for a fixed price all year round. I think the last time it was £17. Killin was one such site.

I think in the fog of discussion when the impression given is that it is only "Club" sites that are expensive my recent experience of thinking of somewhere to go in September goes rather against that conclusion. I looked at a Morris Leisure site and a site in Dawlish which we had previously stayed at and in mid September both were around the £40 a night mark. OK they get a bit cheaper if you go slightly later but then I would imagine that would also be the case for Club sites?

Absolutely👍 Those sites are very sorely missed in this household.

It’s all about upper spend. What Members consider vfm varies hugely, with all sorts of aspects leading to a decision, if folks can even be bothered to make one.

I suppose we started looking at our upper spend limit a very long time ago, when we started spending lots of time away. We happily embraced CLs as they gave us all we needed, at a price that meant we could have much more time away. If your requirements are more specific, then it means you might want/need more, but will have to pay more usually to get your vfm. I suppose the recent price increases will have polarised this for more folks, hence lots of chat around pricing.

Yes it's often portrayed as club sites being the most expensive while other sites are not and totally incorrect of course. They are still middle of the road.

Conereige camping is presently at £59 then a jump to £62 if your caravan/MH is a few metres longer (talk about complicated prices - this is charging by the yard!) to £99 this summer with 30% deposit. And of course cancel within 30 days and you lose all your deposit. And one Sunday is September it jumps to £150 just for that one night and people quibble about a few pounds on club sites.  It is full most of the time too.

Many more examples can be found. Everyone is free chose what they like but club prices are in the middle.

Years ago, in fact too many years ago, when I was working my annual expenditure on caravanning  for site fees, all sorts of sites, plus service and insurance costs was roughly somewhere between 3-5% of my annual income. So I had no problem in using club sites, and they constituted a fair proportion of our weekend nights away, and we rarely had a problem in booking them. Don't get me wrong, sites were usually full at weekends but reserving a pitch seemed easier then than now.

Nowadays, since retirement my annual income has dropped dramatically although it has staged a recovery from life support to convalescence status but those same costs now represent somewhere between 10-15%. Numerous factors are involved but if I was to use club sites for even half of my UK jaunts then that would rise, again approximately, by 5-10%.

So do I reduce the number of nights away so that I can "enjoy" club sites more or carry on enjoying mixing and matching? I know which one I'll be doing but I'm sure the club won't mind too much.

We did a tour of the UK in 2012 after I retired and used a couple at £11 and Bourton on the Water, a no facilities site at £11.80. We then went to Chatsworth which we thought expensive at £20.90. We wouldn’t have stayed there but we had site night vouchers courtesy of the Club credit card. Something else gone by the wayside.
