The colour green

unfortunately i'm finding the use of green print very difficult to see.  Its so pale its quite a strain, i may have to give up.  Also on the old forum you could click on the last comment made under a topic, it doesn't appear to have that facility now.  It could be quite interesting with some topics going into many pages.

I like the new colour scheme, I find the green highlighting quite restful. Bit confused about the green text. The only things I can see in green text is my user name and when people like a post? Or are people meaning the index when the replies/posters are in green? Neither causes me a problem I have to say.

I think posters are meaning the Main Index Discussions page where there is green on green albeit a different shade, not a problem for me but maybe people with a visual impairment have a problem.

There once was a forum in green.

Who's designers didn't want it seen.

With fonts set so small

My Optician I gave him a call.

With threads gone missing in space.

It saves on memory and therefore no waste.

I cannot understand the CL page.

It brings up all towns including Swanage

So next time people want a change

Just think next time it could be in beige

I don't have particularly good eye sight (patched up retina, mild cataracts) but I'm finding the print ok. I think it could possibly be tweaked a bit for contrast. I do admit to having good glasses. wink

Sorry web designer, but it's another vote against the wishy-washy green used on the front page and board listings.  Even this grey is pale.  Maybe it looks different on a Mac (or whatever) publishing system?

I find the lack of contrast really causes me eye strain whether I'm using the desktop or tablet.  And I had my eyes tested only a fortnight ago!

This seems to be a growing trend as some of the magazine pages are printed with text that barely contrasts with the background.

I'm all in favour of keeping things fresh and new, but readability is surely a fundamental requirement?

I can only assume there is a difference depending on device. As on my iPad even my 89 year old mum, who has very poor eye site, would be able to distinguish the fonts both green and grey black OK. Yes I would have to enlarge it for her, but that just involves expanding your fingers on a pad or phone.

Good glasses, poor eyes, probably the diabetes - can only get worse over Christmas!

Apparently the colours looks different with different devices and the settings on those devices.  On my laptop this is in a pale grey and quite small script but on my OH's tablet it appears to be quite a bit darker and also larger and easier to read.

The 'front page' where all the discussions are listed is OK on the posts with the white background, although the title of each section is a bit pale, but on the grey background it becomes more difficult to read in poor light.

One of the fundamental tips for web designers should be to test the readability of their choice of colours, fonts, and text sizes, with a range of devices and a range of viewers of different age groups and fitness levels.

Jake - I totally agree with you and I'm looking at this on a new iMac 27 with a high definition retina screen and the colours are still wishy washy and the black text is definitely grey and not at all easy to read - and I have reasonably good eyesight! What I find frustrating is that when it comes to photos and avatars, they are much improved with clear crisp colours and good definition - so this difficult-to-read text is a deliberate design feature and I just can't understand why.

On Compaq laptop now using google chrome and the colour is now a very acceptable blue on white background.

This is much more acceptable than using my Ipad. Not being a web designer how is this so different on different devices.
