I have twice changed profile avatar this year. Each time it has taken over 24 ours to take effect. No idea why

He's trying to use an iPad but his avatar is Windows.

Are you changing to seasonal related, or caravanning? Bah humbug and all that

I know CY but I was pointing out that even when he suceeds in changing his avatar it will be quite a long time before he knows that he is succesful

I agree that you will probably get the best advice from  CC .  Having said that & doing some research on various threads on CT I also found Adobe Flash Player is needed & I don't believe ipads/iphones have this.
