Notifications moan again!

Between logging off yesterday at 5pm and logging on again this morning at about 8.20am I had over 100 notifications for about 10 threads. 

Why can't we have one notification per thread instead of a notification for each post including any post that are made by yourself?  Once you have logged in and read the posts only then do you receive another notification.

To get around this abnormality, I am unsubscribing from all threads except those that I have started preferring to look for new posts the next day and then to click "Mark all as read" even though that does not work properly.
