Notification overload..

I'm fairly sure this has been discussed before but the subject has just raised it head again in the Clothing Thread. Why cannot the notification that a thread you are following has new responses stop at ONE !!!

Many of us are opening our inboxes to find a whole run of notifications because one thread has a lot of responses (including our own, which I find particularly annoying, I know I have just responded I don't need another e-mail telling me) Could we not have a notification along the lines of the red numbers in the listing for new posts to a thread ?
