Maximum post length?

Is there a maixiumum permitted length of post on CT? In the last week I've tried to post two (admittedly long) replies to topics, only for the whole shebang to disappear when I've tried to post it. Admittedly I've been interrupeted whilst composing the post, and left the keyboard unattended for perhaps 10 minutes before returning to complete the message, but it's extremely frustrating when it happens.

Other forums I'm a member of simply refuse to accept words beyond a limit, if you try to cut 'n paste something lengthy, for example. But what's the rule on CT? Or am I barking up the wrong sycamore? (it probably is sick o' more than a prescribed number of words).
