Its Very Sad

I find it very sad, that a thread intended to encourage helpful and constructive debate, and which initially did so, should then quite suddenly descend into silly and vindictive remarks, to the point whereby the mods took the quite understandable decision to close it down.

What on earth is the matter with this group that they find it impossible to discuss a subject important to all of us, without becoming antagonistic, sarcastic and rude?

 No I'm not going to take my ball home, but I really do feel that some need to find a way to be able to discuss a subject without rancour and to resist their overwhelming desire to respond in an inappropriate way.
