Is it worth bothering with CT?

I started reading a thread that had been opened 21 hours previously and already it was closed so unable to comment.  Next thread which was interesting, closed.

I can understand closing a thread like "Sunday departures" as you needed a holiday just to read through that thread, but why close recent or new threads even if they are covering old ground?

It will get to a point where it will not be worth while opening a new thread just in case it mentions something already covered and is closed almost immediately!
