I don't usually follow threads as I always scan through all the sections. However yesterday I did follow a discussion I started and despite several replies within hours. I only got an e-mail about an hour ago. I would have thought that you should get an automatic response immediately someone else makes a post otherwise I can't really see the use of the function?

I am guessing that what should be happening is that you get a notification when the thread is updated and no further notifications until you visit the thread.  Once you visit the thread you will get another notification and no more until you visit the thread again.

Unfortunately this is a bit too much for the the IT team to take on so now if you are lucky you will get an notification email several hours after the thread has bene updated several times.

At the moment the forum really sucks but as the CC is enjoying their holds, who cares!

From what I can see surfer its about 6 days. I visited this thread on 26/12 after receiving an email 6 days after a post and have just 2/1 received another about your post on the 27/12. Until they sort it they may as well turn it off and remove the follow button.

Just recieved an email, again sent at 13:03, saying there is new activity on this thread. However, the last post is mine on the 2nd January. Also the advertising seems to have disappeared. Not surprising really they were paying for nothing as the system clearly does not work yet.

Just recieved one for your post Millie, 7 days after you posted. So it seems they have the frequency of send out set to a week. The ones I get have all been sent at 13:03. Although as BB points out it is not a big issue. I think until they get it sorted they should remove the follow button.

  • whats annoying, Steve, is that this must be the tiniest of changes to correct.....

ok, not perhaps a priority, but 'back in the day' our applications teams were able to deal with longer duration 'projects' and also short term 'maintenance/fixes'.

customers understood that, for those changes wrapped up in one of the larger projects for their department, time scales were longer. however if there was a small fix that could be coded/tested/implemented without impact in a shorter timescale, it usually got done.

i dont see any of this quick-win stuff being 'won quickly'undecided

larger projects we always treated with the strapline 'eat the elephant in small parts'.....fixing ALL of the forums 'foibles' is a large job, an elephant that perhaps should be eaten in small parts...undecided

Certainly I would have thought it could be sorted quickly. Indeed we were told by Rochelle on another thread that the frequency had been changed to daily. Still no good of course, needs to be immediate. However, clearly this did not happen, as they are weekly to the minute. Presumably they are also loosing revenue, as the first versions had an advert on them. These have now disappeared, presumably because they cannot charge for something they are not providing.
