CC website looking odd with Internet Explorer

When on my caravan trips, I use my Advent netbook to access the internet. It uses Windows XP. My normal mode of operation is a '3' dongle, or a Virgin dongle- pre Air Angel, I have bought CC wifi cards, and had no problems with site access. Anyway, as a member of CT, I am taking advantage of the CC's concession for free use of CC wifi just for the CC site, so that I can use the forum without using up my monthly internet allowance on my dongles. When I access the CC website on my netbook using Internet Explorer, the layout is completely shot to pieces- virtually unusable- I have tried compatibility mode, but no use. I have overcome the problem by using Google Chrome browser instead- full layout restored, and full functionality. Anyone else noticed this?
