Can't update profile photo

just tried again to upload a new profile image using my old desktop (ipads a waste of time!, but kept hetting a mesage suggesting my image wasnt a JPG.....its a JPEG which I thought (wrongly?) was a synonym?

anyway, found a conversion program, seemed to run successfully, but this 'converted' file also failed for the same reason.....

given up yet again.... 

Perhaps if we ask nicely, everyone with a profile photo could delete theirs just so we don't feel left out 

This evening profile photos seem to be appearing and disappearing randomly. Mine went for a while, then reapppeared. What is happening with this site? Checked on another device and the same thing was happening.
