Weekends

My wife keeps reading about weekends away with the 'van. I get home about 5 on Friday, if we were to then drive to the storage we would be on the road for say 6. This gives very little time for travelling and set up, particularly when the days are short doesn't it?

Given that I can't see the point of 'holidaying'  within a couple of hour's drive, (what's the point?) I can't see why I would want to go anywhere on a Friday. Several sites we've looked at have an arrivals curfew of 6 or 7 anyway.

Perhaps when I retire, things will be different, but so far in our first year, we've only done one weekend and that was in the school holidays anyway, when I wasn't working on the Friday.
