Towing covers

We recently changed our caravan from a 2011 Coachman Pastiche 470/2 to a 2016 Coachman Pastiche 460.   We used a towing cover on the old van but were advised that it would not fit on the 460 so purchased a new cover from Specialised Covers.    The item was very swiftly made and quickly delivered.   In the meantime I watched a Youtube video on how to fit the cover and it seemed really simple.

Come the day of our first outing and we went to collect our van from the storage site about 10 miles away.   The towing cover was unpacked and fitted into the nearside awning rail - simple.   Imagine my horror when I went to the offside and found that there was no slot in the rail into which to fit the cover.   It was not something I had even thought about when we purchased the van and the dealer had not noticed either.    Apparently, it was something he had occasionally come across with another make of van but not Coachman.   He was reluctant to attempt any alteration to the rail so I contacted Coachman and asked for their advice.    They did not offer any explanation as to why there was no slot in the awning rail to accommodate a towing cover but suggested that a slot could be cut out with a tool such as a Dremmel.   Not having such a tool, I contacted a caravan repair specialist about 20 miles away and the job was done in a couple of hours and an excellent job was made.   We are now much happier knowing that we have not wasted over £300 on a cover.
