Swift motorhome panoramic sunroof

Hi all

I have a 2017 bessacarr 494 with the large panoramic sunroof that goes across the whole width of the van.
it suffers with wind noise at higher speeds which is annoying but worst than that it oscillates and knocks the bodywork. I have stuck foam tape all over the edges of the main roof and the smaller fixed front section. Nothing seems to work.
Am I alone? I cannot find anyone else on Google with the same issues.

Not a MH but we have a similar sunroof on our swift caravan. Last year the foam square 'tubing' that runs at the edges of the glass and seals, or fills the gap between the glass and bodywork, started to fall away, it was in fact hanging down, I kept pushing it back but it kept coming down. It probably made some wind noise but of course we wouldn't hear it.

It was an easy fit when it was serviced and they just pushed some new thicker stuff into the gap and somehow made it stay there without removing the glass. I was more worried about water ingress but was told it's not there for that (and there was no damp) and more as a wind seal.

Hope this helps

There has been lots of problems with MH panoramic sunroofs across all makes.

We don't have one on ours as we deliberately chose one without.

Depending on how old yours is I would take it back to the dealer for the fix.

Some have been fitted with short screws holding the framework, while other's have not been fitted incorrectly so the seals don't do what they designed to do.

If you are confident enough you might like to look at it yourself, if not best to get it looked at by a good dealer.

I finally fixed the sunroof. In my experience the dealers are happy to charge for their time but rarely fix issues properly.
the issue is another swift own goal, the sunroof is secured above the windscreen by some brackets there was there was too much play which allowed the fixed front section to vibrate causing the noise. The fix was layers of self adhesive draft proofing foam to take up the slack and cushion the roof.
why don’t swift do this themselves, the van is well designed but poorly executed. It’s taken me nearly three years to de swift the van. Finally the van is as it should have been when it left the factory.

if anyone has a similar issue mail me and I can go through the fix in greater detail

Our MH is Swift Bessacarr 524 first reg 2019 - worse than this - last month whilst on french motorway at steady 55 mph our panoramic sunroof started to vibrate, the wind got underneath and it shattered into several pieces all within a couple of minutes. I obviously had to continue to next services. The front section which would have been bonded and screwed had completely gone, all that remained was the 'bent' opening metal bracket and sections attached to the two side clamps, which I had correctly secured before setting off. - Now back home awaiting new roof for the repair. Fortunately we had Red Pennant travel insurance who within a couple of calls directed us to a garage who did a temporary repair. (lots of Wurth brand cellophane tape covering the opening - which subsequently has kept the rain out!) This MH is new to us and this was our first extended trip in it.

So as per previous posts if you have any issues get them fixed before it gets worse - we weren't so lucky!

Ouch

sorry to hear about your issues. Glad you got home safely.
Swift should recall all the vehicle with panoramic sunroofs and fix them, you had exactly the same vibration I had. Fortunately mine didn’t shatter.

Really not acceptable considering the age and cost of these vehicles.

Hi, we have a 2019 Swift Bessacarr and had virtually the same incident on a French motorway at the beginning of May. We had left a site in Luxembourg to head to a site in France and as soon as we set off we had  problems with the sunroof vibrating. I pulled over to check that it was properly locked down which it was. When we got onto the autoroute at around 55 mph it got worse till it eventually ripped itself off, leaving only small chards attached to the rear frame. Fortunately the sun blind was closed as pieces could have come into the cabin causing injury. I pulled over on the side of the motorway and called the emergency services. I also called the RAC as we had taken out their travel insurance but they were next to useless because as it wasn’t a breakdown, they weren’t interested (they did ring back a couple of days later to see if ‘we were ok’ but I pointed out why as they weren’t interested in helping us). We made it to our campsite that was booked for a few nights where we got help from some other Motorhomers, members of course and fashioned a repair. The owner of the site was very helpful and we managed a repair and got home, albeit very slowly. Getting a replacement part is taking time and hopefully will be fitted next week. Certainly something I have taken out of this is not to use the RAC again. As a footnote, when we took it to the repairer, there were several brand new screws in the front roof well which looked like they were not fitted properly or had vibrated themselves loose.

Hi,

We have had the same issue. Have you any idea of cost of new sunroof?

Hi, we have a 2017 Bessacarr 412 and it’s a cracked sunroof +++ and the handle to wind the roof up is very loose, screw is tight. Viabration noise horrendous at times. Replacement sunroof was £1174 +VAT from Brownhills, £2700 + from Don Arnotts. Fitting extra. Problem is the supplier to Swift has stopped making them!!

looks like a Swift problem. Nothing will be done however I fear.

if anyone can supply a new one please let us know. Cheers.
