Route Planning

For my next outing I have used the route planning facility on the club website. I will be travelling to Putts Corner in Devon and the time it comes up with is 3hrs 38 incl. 15 min stop. I wondered how real that is. Any vast inaccuracy could mean arriving too late to go on site. It all depends upon average speed. Does the system allow/not allow for a caravan being towed behind ?

So with this in mind I checked this against my PC Autoroute 2007. I know that it is does not allow for towing, but that I can overide the Ave. speed in options which I have found reasonably good to being a little tight on time. The output gives me 3hrs 7 mins. Close enough I think. However, using my Tom Tom Sat.nav with a speed caped at 50 mph I get 3 hrs 50 mins.

The conclusion which I draw here is that the club system is very tight on time. Infact I would go as far as to say it does not know you have a caravan on the back, which surly is the purpose it is required for. I hope this would not cause my fellow members to "hit the gas" when they realise they could  be late for arrival, thus putting them in a potential risk area.
