Overcab awnings

I have never ever seen a MH use an awning of any sort that covers the cab. What a pain that would be to fit! Are you sure it is an awning rail rather than a water run off gulley over the cab?

I honestly don't know, it seems to fit the figure of 8 kits that come with the awning. As I said totally new to this so probably is just rain run off like you suggested. 

Some motor homes have a rain channel that run along the side to catch roof water.  Otherwise a swift heavy footed entry could cause water to run off the roof onto the unfortunate at the door !

It looks as if you could use a figure of eight awning fitting , but I would not. The weight of a wet, wind swept awning could easily break or bend the channel.

Some awnings come with throw over straps that are thrown over the roof and are pegged down on the opposite side to the awning.

if you have a wind out awning, the usual method is to wind out the awning, fix the tunnel fittings with the correct sliding strap. Put the awning in the correct position, wind in the awning to provide tension to the tunnel section and fix everything up. Problems start when you return from the drive away and have to get the motor home in the same position as it was when you erected the awning first time.

It’s a lot easier to take a tent!  The BUT here is that you do not have a flappy bit at the back which you can show the warden and say. “ Look it is Drive Away awning” !

I have admitted defeat and accept that fixing the awning to the motor home is a non starter and have an easier life.
