We don't have a full awning, only a pull out. However, have never had any significant difficulty pegging that on hardstanding, or the rotary washer or sat dish, when we had one, just using a hammer and hard surface pegs.

Concrete though is a different matter. I would not want to attempt erecting  an awning on it. However, I would have thought a hammer drill, masonary bit(s) and expanding eye bolts would be the best way. Not going to make you popular with your neighbour in his relaxer though.😉

Are there many concrete awning pitches? Usually they are non awning. Although they did suggest we use a Tarmac one at Cherry Hinton once. We declined, as other pitches were available.

The only CAMC site with concrete pitches we have stayed on is High Onn where the hard standing pitches are the concrete bases for former Nissen huts from when it was an RAF camp I believe.h

There are many tarmac pitches on racecourse site such as Warwick and Cheltenham and a few elsewhere like Steamer Quay.

I guess the site owner won't be too happy to find his concrete or tarmac HS resembling a colander. 

We have stayed at both Warwick and Chapel Lane which have some tarmac pitches. I am fairly certain they were all non awning.

which is why I would ask the question...."why an awning"?

yes, its a personal choice and it may be that you have a particular requirement for more space...dogs, kids, bikes to cover etc...in which case, that's great...

but you've already come across the first (of many?) awning related questions and for us (no dog or kids and the bikes go in the garage when not in use....) we haven't found a requirement...

I don't know if you have one on your van, but we have wind out canopy which can provide shade when necessary and also be a very swiftly deployed (and retracted) rain canopy....

it can also be fully packed away, in its own storage space) just by winding it in...

we generally find that of the weather is fine, we sit outside....if it gets too cold, we sit in the van....

the halfway house (literally) of sitting in a (enclosed) tent attached to the side of the van has never appealed.

as I said. each to their own but as you're 'all new to this' have a good think about why you want one....and the associated 'fun' of putting it up, taking it down, storing it wet, finding the space, and the weight, etc...

...and the cost.....

im sure many will give you good advice on what to buy but my view is make sure you really want one before spending a load of cash one.

im sure plenty of folk buy awnings because that what other folk on site have......

Thanks for all your replies. I am probably going to take Bolero Boy's advice and stick with the wind out Fiamma for a while to see if we actually need one. My reason was after two quite wet outings it was more for the dog and wet clothing I suppose. I will enjoy our time exploring the country in our Motorhome, learning a lot from this site.
