I have long been sceptical about Facebook however.....Yesterday I was about to go inside for lunch when my daughter called in great distress she had lost one of her dogs. She hasn't been divorced all that long and they are her "family". Three Black labs, two sisters and daughter to one, all descended from the line my grandfather started before I was born. She had taken them for a walk a few miles from home between her gardening jobs with another dog staying with her. She had got home opened the van door and found she was one short. Not clever but of course she goes to search and also calling friends for help. One to get on Facebook and post her missing on the local village page and me to call her local vets etc 320 miles from me!  Busy Devon lanes were the worry. I was busy on my landline with the vets when my mobile bleeped a message "found". A lovely lady had been going home for lunch and seen the dog trotting up the road searching, she opened her car door and in hops the dog. She took a picture and posts it on the village Facebook  page just as the friend was putting on the missing notice!

It wasn't clever of my girl but we all make mistakes when rushed off our feet. I left her brother at home once! Those dogs are so close even at home I have had to look twice to count them on their bed! The youngest lies on top of her Aunt!  I have picked up dogs like that so perhaps it was a case of "what goes round...."

So lucky and Thank you Facebook!

Wow great news Pippah. I know you're very fb sceptical but it's a fantastic resource in this sort of case. How often has something been found but no way of telling the locals let alone the world before fb? There was someone who'd found an engraved ring whilst off Greece owners traced via fb.

I remember on holiday in possibly Cliftonville, there was a seawater pool built within the tidal flow, a woman having the pool drained as she'd lost her wedding ring. Even as a 7 or 8 year old I knew you had to be very rich to be able to afford that! So fb can be great if used sensibly.

So glad your daughter has been reunited with her beloved dog, stress can do awful things and make you do silly ones!

It's really the security of it that troubles me having a slightly different surname I am far too easy to trace if that goes up on fb as it did a while ago - and who was that Celebrity who was burgled because he had advertised his absence on holiday?  Its certainly the reason I haven't joined the other club's forum as they insist on the full name being shown.  Not that I live in fear of course - just try to be careful!

Yes when I left my son at home he had been put back in his cot because of bad behaviour - and I remember I had to the post office for something - taking the rest in the car!  I still feel guilty thinking about that more than 40 years on but no harm was done he was still quiet in his cot when I got home!  He certainly doesn't remember it as he was unaware we had gone out!

Yes relief all round Lilly is particularly special.  Thank you smile

A friends daughter, a teacher, was advised not to have fb account during her training several years ago. She does have an account along with a photo now and for several years now she just uses her forenames. She had an account in her maiden name but dropped her surname over 5 years ago. Would that assist you? I also notice that some have two names eg husband and wife so it appears it is possible.

Whoops I thought you'd left an animal 😶😶. Still no harm done.

I didn't know you could just go first name I might do that thank you. I do family stuff quite happily great way of keeping up with my son in the US.

It was my son but I have had dogs go awol hunting it's no fun.  Waiting for them to appear.  I searched for ages for a mini dachshund once and finally gave up and returned to the car.  There she was wondering why we had been so long!  One got stuck in a snare and we could hear her bark but every time we got close she stopped barking!  Generally speaking they give more pleasure than agony!  I think!
