Hello,

We are travelling down to Spain in our motorhome for the first time in January, and we are taking our little dog Molly. We were wondering what the situation is regarding public transport as we have read lots of conflicting information. Has anyone taken their pets with them to Spain and taken them on public transport? Any advice and information will be greatfully received..

I'm surprised nobody has been on to reply, Harebell. I missed your original post, maybe others did too. Maybe you could try reposting in Overseas Sites (if the mods will let anything containing the word 'dog' repose there Sealed ). I, too, would like more info on this subject.

I think the answer is Trains yes, Buses no.  Certainly Avanza bus company have said no and I think other bus companies will say the same. But it's worth asking Google to see what others say.

It's my understanding that you can't take them on a bus at all.  On a train they have to be crated.  The other thing to be aware of is the need to have them restrained in your motorhome when you're driving.

My understanding is the same as Q4's but I admit þo not restraining my dog in the motorhome.

I think it is also illegal to have an unrestrained dog in a vehicle in the UK, not enforced AFAIK

My dog, a terrier cross, is an amazingly well behaved traveller. We put his bed between the front passenger seats and as soon as the engine starts that is where he goes and he never moves until the engine goes off. He has been doing this for 9 years and this behaviour has never waivered. It may well be illegal but I have no need of restraining him. Sadly he is now terminally ill and may not be with us much longer.

Restraining is also for the welfare of the dog, it doesn't matter how well behaved it is if you have to do an emergency stop or worse you crash.

I don't drive around expecting to have an accident. In the even of one occuring I am more likely to be injured or even killed by a flying oven or some other piece of motorhome equipment than a dog.

No need to worry about the dog, he will be fine curled up is his wrap around padded bed unless the oven falls on him.
