Pets Passport

The wording in the new style passport (from 2013/14),  PDF <LINK HERE> but the ruling remains from the old style if you have it, like mine.

Clinical examination (new wording):
• This section is not required for travel into and within the EU but may be required by some third countries that accept the passport and by transport companies.

My passport (section IX) has been filled in for 2014, 2015 but not for our trips of 2016 and 2017. Different vets with different understandings but while we remain in the EU, and travel within the EU it matters not whether its filled in.

I will have to see my Vet anyway as there is only one space left on there to say she is fit to travel 

I hope they don't get rid of the "fit to travel" bit as it could mean some European diseases coming over here - which I understand is already happening.  The vet I generally use in France is very thorough with the health check.  I hope I would know if my dog wasn't well but a vet should know more   I am pretty near needing new passports too. 

Ooh, read this with interest. I am taking Pnnut and Fraggle to France next month. I must say, I am rather anxious having not done it before.

There is no need to worry I have never had any trouble even when the vet didn't stamp the fit to travel box there weren't any query at Calais when they checked my dog's passport.

Arty - don't worry - I wasted a lot of energy worrying - and my stress levels do increase a bit on the return check in - but so many of us do it without problems!  Just do your homework about the passport stamp time and worming and processionary catipilars etc.  Enjoy. 

The Vet should, but it is not obligatory, examine the dog to ensure it is fit to travel and sign and date 'Clinical Examination' (page 28).

We have always asked the Vet to fill in the 'fit to travel' part but it isn't necessary as long as the dog looks fit and healthy - any dog who looks 'unhealthy' at the Pet Passport Office may possibly have to answer what is the cause of the problem.

As we all pay through the nose for the Pet Passport treatment then getting the Clinical Examination page signed and dated helps to justify the cost a little.

The vet and his nurse just gave our dog a check over, gave him the tapeworm tablet and stamped and signed off his passport.

At the Euro Tunnel terminal, we were given the scanner to scan the dogs chip, the woman checked it was the same number and checked the passport, all done in around 5 mins; it took a lot longer to get through French and UK border controls.
