Fireworks and dogs

When I took Alfie out last night around 7.10 we were met with two thunderbolt explosions and loads of flashing, I pulled Alfie close to me and carried on with the walk, I did notice his tail droop,(first time ever) but we carried on as normal with me talking to him as normal and he perked up.

Tonight there have been some extremely loud explosions for about two hours. The first one even made me jump, Alfie barked, I said a VERY stern NO!!! I didn't like doing it but it worked, he has been as good as gold all night. He has looked up and round at me when the loudest bangs occurred, with me saying a quieter "noooo", he's accepted it and didn't even move at the quieter bangs. Looks good to me.....

How'd She do spk?, did the training pay off?

rocky. She was fabulous by far the best dog there without wishing to sound like a smart arse this is her second season and although she was good last year now with more experience and a bit older and calmer the difference was quite remarkable. I would post a vid of yet sat to flush but I fear its not everyone's cup of tea. The guns were rubbish though couldn't hit a barn door

Brian, my bitch was too tired to bother but when she went out for a comfort break and they were still going off she wasn't happy. Strange is it not that she has no problem with shotgun or rimfire...

Went for our normal evening walk last night, firework all around, some quite spectacular, our dog was fine and relaxed.

Glad the puppy training to get him used to noise has stood the test of time.

People with rescued dogs don't always have the opportunity to help dogs adapt in this way.

Good on you 'K',  many took it upon themselves to re-home an older dog and the dogs younger years were not available to them for training.

Good points, Brue and Dave. Our dogs, all rescued have had very different reactions to fireworks and other loud noises. Our old boy George was the worst, petrified when there were fireworks around, he'd just take himself up to one of the bedrooms and curl up under the bed. That was until we got Harry who doesn't bat an eyelid when they're on and because he seemed so calm that reassured George who was never bothered again. Last night was our first Fireworks night since getting Lady who is still pretty nervous about any loud noises. She wasn't too bad, though, again relaxed next to Harry, but you could sense that she didn't quite know exactly what was going on. Oddly enough, when I took her out for her walk she was quite happy in spite on the frequent loud bangs. 

Our poodle is now 4 yrs old .We had her as a puppy in the oct and we had a local firework display off the pier within 2 weeks of having her .She just watched enthralled and we take her whenever there is one on .I put her in my coat and she just watches not a sound from her .But we are very lucky
