Campingplatz Erden a dog friendly site. If you like cycling and have a dog, then a 'Doggyride' is the answer, easy to tow.

The Mosel cycle path runs past the site, a round trip of 18 miles to Traben-Trabach enjoying the views and town. About 15 miles the other way to Bernkastel and back which is another very nice old town on the river side.

Kloster Machern, an old abbey then convent, now a brewery, bar/café, museum, is 4 miles towards Rachtig, nice meals and their own brewed Weiss Beer.

I'm ok for advice on what's best for the health and welfare of dogs thanks.

I have that particular issue covered better than most

My dog will soon be 10 years old, He is healthy and enjoys long walks  I put that down to plenty of healthy exercise throughout his life. As a working dog breed he has been excellent, both on and off lead, easily taught and keen to enjoy the company of other dogs and humans. He took part in Agility when he was younger which he really loved. Dogs love exploring, and can only do that if they are on their own four paws.

I rest my case M'Lud. smile

There was a report on one of the on-line newspapers yesterday about the massive increase is obese dogs. This is due to their owners not allowing them enough exercise.

Why do so many so called dog lovers put the health of their dogs at risk by not taking them for proper walks ?.  Laziness and lack of care come immediately to mind. frown

I'm so happy that I don't have to rely on online newspapers for advice on dog health and welfare as some dog owners seem to do. laughing

K, care to explain how I can get exercise a none overweight, previously happy to walk a dozen miles aged eight Labrador, diagnosed with arthritis in three legs and spondylitis in his spine? He can barely do 400 metres now without needing a sit down some days. Around the house he is happy, comfortable, potters around at his own pace, does what he can. We swim him at the coast when we can, but rivers and the like sometimes upset his skin. We have paid out hundreds of pounds trying various things to improve his condition, we pay out hundreds of pounds for pain relief and between us and our vet, manage things so that he has a decent, interesting, pain limited lifestyle. Included in this is a Doggy-hut, we take it with us on walks, he hops in and out when he needs to, and it has extended our walks with him. Not tried it behind bike, as we have a second older Lab so would need a second Doggy Hut!

You have no idea what you take on when becoming responsible for a dog. You just do the best you can if they need help. So please don't preach about the best way to look after a dog. I wish you joy with your healthy one.

Well said, TDA. Ignore the comments from those who know not what they’re talking about.
