Bye bye Drumstick

We lost our little 3 legged Jack Russell, Drumstick three days into our hols here in Europe. A kindly friend looking after him and my little Lhasa advised us that he had taken a turn for the worst and that the kindest thing to do was...........  we are both heartbroken.  It's as close as I can imagine losing my child. Our little Lhasa is apparently missing him dreadfully. Advice if you have been through this (they are both our first ever dogs As responsible adults). Do I go out and get another companion for her (and us actually) the minute I get home Or would that be a bit impulsive ?
