Bromide anyone using this for canine epilepsy

Our youngest Boston has epilepsy diagnosed about a year ago, started on Pexion made her worse. Then phenobarbital increasing dose as doesn't seem to do anything. Vet suggested bromide, but alongside the phenobarbital which we are certain has no effect, so we have decided to gradually take her off the phenobarbital and give her a gap to see how often she fits on no meds, and compare to when on meds. If there is no difference or she had more thinking about trying Bromide which is an older style drug. Anyone advise of any side effects or problems encountered with it?
