Hi Graham, have passed your website details to my brother who dabbles in astrophotography.  He lives in his MH full time and spends the winters with some likeminded friends in Sicily following their hobby

We're lucky enough to have a house in a 'dark sky' area of France, and last year spent many happy hours on our roof terrace watching the stars.  My brother is hoping to join us again, but this year will bring his telescope - so we're in for even more interesting star watching.

I'm intrigued by the night sky but know nothing about it, I can recognise the moon 😉. I can assure you if I saw you on site I'd be asking for a bit of a lesson. We have some friends who we meet up with camping and he knows a bit. Very interesting but sadly I soon loose any knowledge I had gained 😂😂

I have Skyview app on both my phone and I Pad, so can scan the sky and it will tell me what's about.

Not so long ago, I was seriously into astro-imaging, and like you, had a fully equipped observatory, with an attached 'warm room', in the garden.

I pursued this hobby for some twelve years, while living in a rural village, without street lighting. I also ran an online astro-imaging group, of some 300+ members.

In 2015, we moved to a larger nearby village, with facilities on-hand (Drs, and shop etc), but with street lighting. Knowing it would no longer be the same, without the dark skies I had enjoyed, I gave up, and sold everything.

I am now seriously into photography, and having just returned to caravanning, after a break of some 10 years (now with Motorhome), I'm looking forward to getting out and about with the camera.

What kit would you recommend for a novice.  It must be portable, be able to accept a Cannon DSLR and not be too expensive.  Thanks in advance

I've always been fascinated by the 'heavenly vista' and am in awe of those capable of capturing that moment in time of our astral (not para) observations. It's beyond my ken and squeezes my mellon but nevertheless its absolutely beautiful and totally bogging at the same time.
