Advice welcomed

Since retirement I have returned to photography as a hobby. Now I've always hankered after a digiscope and I would welcome advice as to which scope would be recommended. Predominantly it would be used with my iPhone. I also wonder if, like my compact camera which can be linked with my iPad and remotely operated from this, can the same be done to operate the iPhone from my iPad?. Does anyone know of an app that does this. Any general tips to get me up and running would be most welcomed, too.

Wow, what a question.

1 How much do you want to spend.

2 Do you wear glasses

3 Straight or cranked eye piece.

I do not have one, but most of the guys I know have one and without doubt the best I have used of theirs is the Swarovski. It is extremely expensive if you go for the top end, but it has a large diameter lens which is great in lower light, The eye piece can be chosen as straight or cranked, and the lens at the front is again larger diameter which means you can view the object without needing to remove your glasses, much easier.

The top end also comes with options as it is modular so there are 2 zoom ranges and the pics I have seen from the I phone that my friend has are very good.

There was also a comparison carried out recently to compare the scope/camera pics against a top quality super telephoto and top end camera, and the scope performed very well.

As a glasses wearer, I find  the others are more difficult to use as the view is somewhat restricted. However I guess if the scope was set for your eyesight, this may be less of an issue.

Next part is a carbon fibre tripod to reduce the weight you need to carry around.

Best of luck

Thanks Bm, as usual with such things, I guess I'm going to have to do more research and deliberating. Currently I'm using my camera on a tripod and wireless viewing/operating this through my iPad or my old iPhone. This works very well and would like the same functionality with the digiscope if this is possible. Really I guess I'd want the best entry level scope I can afford, £350 being the max budget I've set myself.

cheers M

Micky - Nearly missed this so might have been better to title this Digiscoping.

I have shown my set-up on the photography thread

Apart from a Bluetooth shutter release zapper (hurry up Santa) I now have all the gear for Digi scoping using my phone.  The quality of photos using my Samsung S6 are very good.  The attachment for the telescope is made by Viking and I got mine from an RSPB shop

Have now got my Bluetooth zapper and it works well.

Cheers Op, I'll look at that. The ability to set up the camera in the field and then view /zoom /operate through my iPad is handy, can sit in comfort in the hide/caravan. Just wondered if this could be possible with scope.
