We are lindy hop revival dancers who attend 40s weekend in the south coast having recently brought our first caravan S/H, and both on the wrong side of 70ish we are looking to go further afield next year and visit more weekends away. Are their any people in the lindyhop fraternity who do this.

We're not into Lindy Hop but do go to a couple of the 40's War Time weekends.   Can recommend Woodhall Spa in August and Pickering in October (although we prefer Woodhall).   Will advise though that most CL's in those areas are fully booked year on year.

The Poppy Line railway, based in Sheringham hosts a 1940's weekend in mid September. North Norfolk, lovely area.

I just go to the 40s events as part of my photo hobby and don't dress up. Pickering as mentioned above is excellent. I know that there is a lot of dancing, especially jiving, at the Haworth weekend which might be worth your checking it out.

We stayed at CC Incleboro Fields last year when the local forties weekend was on (mentioned by TDA) we arrived to find the site run unexpectedly by Dad's Army both outside and inside the office. It was good fun, everything had been turned back to the forties. The site office had air raid tape on the windows. Lots of people on the site were taking part and we had a get together one evening, some very clever costumes to be seen.

Write your comments here...I went this year and it's a brilliant weekend. Centred around the stations of Sheringham, Melbourne and Holt, it really is a very good weekend indeed. Apparently when it first started 3000 turned up- now it's 30,000 over the 2 days.

Hi,

We have been invited to a 1940's themed wedding in May.

Being horsey l quite liked the idea of going as a land girl, l just wondered if anyone could recommend where l could get the costume from?

Regards,

Mrs Murdy.

We are Lindy Hoppers, but favour the 50's era of music.  However, you may find us attaending the following 40's events:-

Lacock at War 19/20 Aug 17

Cotswold at War, GWR steam railway, Toddington to Cheltenham Racecourse, Gloucestershire.  Cheltenham Racecourse site would be ideal as a base.

Retrofestival at Newbury Showground 12-14 August *see Berkshire centre website for rally info).
