Unfortunately this is not the case in our experience, and the website still states in important information "Please note that if members would like to walk within the attraction grounds at the Longleat Resort, a valid ticket is needed." Also on the site page. "Please note that from the 2015 season, there will be no entry to the Longleat grounds without a valid ticket".

Walks on the free side are extremely limited, without using quite a bit of road. it is a lovely site but it would put us off going again, as we like to walk from site. However, if it is your first time, the special prices on the park tickets are good value. We bought a five day one, which gave us plenty of time to visit the attractions, as well as walk in and through the park. When we were there somebody was on the gate just down from the site all day and we were also stopped by security in the parkland itself and asked if we had a ticket.

Thanks for the replies - I think we may postpone visit for a while and maybe do it at the same time as the Festival of Light.

SteveL (funnily enough thats my name and initial as well), we also like to walk from site, we've had nice walks from Cheltenham, Pandy & Cirencester but are always looking for more, either as GPX or pdf files. We usually manage 6 -9 miles and as we generally are away on weekends look for sites about within 1.5 hours of Bristol. I don't finish until 6.00 most Fridays so don't want to go to far before settling down!!

If you know of any walks from sites I would really appreciate it if you could let me have details.

I can reciprocate with our walks if they would be useful to you.

It's our first year caravanning, hopefully by next year we'll have a bit more idea of what we are doing!!

As you mention Cirencester, one walk we particularly like is to the Tunnel Inn, where we stop for lunch. If you look at a 1:25,000 map, it is fairly easy to follow. The route leaves the site by the entrance road and then along the pavement alongside the A 429 towards Tetbury. This is not a nice bit of the walk but is relatively short. After about 200 m turn right onto the Monarch Way, across the Agricultural University sports fields. Follow this for about 3.5 miles to the Tunnel Inn. Part of the way runs alongside the disused Thames and Severn Canal. After lunch leave the TI by the entrance road, go through the gate and up the hill to the railway line. Cross this at the designated crossing, where care is required as some of the trains do 80 mph on this stretch. Follow the path as it curves round through Coates. A short stretch on a country road and back onto track at Bledisloe. The farm is part of the University. Follow the track past the milking parlour to rejoin the Monarch Way close to Field Barn and then repeat the route back to the site. Total distance 8 to 9 miles. We also like a variation to this route by catching the 881 bus from the Cirencester to Kemble railway station, then Wysis way and Thames path ( past the source) to join the Monarch way to the Tunnel Inn. Lunch again and then back to the site. Again about 8 to 9 miles with the pub in the middle.
