April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

An update from the Ranger at LotL

"Female NC0 arrived at her nest in the Scottish Wildlife Trust’s Loch of the Lowes Wildlife Reserve in Perthshire at 7.43am on Friday, and six hours later her mate LM12 (Laddie) returned – performing a sky dance just before landing.

Ranger Sara Rasmussen said she was delighted to see the pair back again at the loch, the first time ever the pair have arrived back on the same day."

As far as the Manton Bay nest is concerned the first Osprey to arrive, Blue 25, not the resident female, has returned and there has already been a mating attempt by Blue 33. Wonder what Maya, his former partner, will do if or when she returns.

Sadly, Nellie, it is most unlikely that I shall be found very far north of the Cheshire Border for anything more that a couple of hours now.

Still I thank you for your kindnesses now and in the warmer times  !smilecool

Sorry to read that you will no longer be making the journey up there, ABM, perhaps I should not post any more about the LG nest, don't want to upset you.

Maya arrived back at her Manton Bay nest this morning, resulting in 3 Ospreys on the nest until Blue 25 took the hint and departed, probably to her own nest close by.

There are now a pair on the nest at Theaves Castle too, who we may go and try to see next week.

You could not offend or upset me unless you start Osprey hunting with a 12 bore surprised.

If good folk tell the rest of us whats a-going on out there,  well  we might, just might, stir our stumps and brave the A74/M74  and even some parts of the A82................

ABM, I guess the nearest Ospreys nests to you will be those in Wales, Llyn Clweydog, Llyn Glaslyn, and Dyfi at Machynlleth, or perhaps Foulshaw Nature Reserve near  Kendal, and perhaps at Leighton Moss should any occupy the new nest there. It would save a very long journey up to LG, each of the others being roughly a quarter of the distance!!

A juvenile Scottish Osprey, ringed in Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park, Renfrewshire, on June 23rd 2022, has been photographed "holidaying" in Barbados on 9th March this year, a distance from home of over 4100 mls!!

Also the first of the Kielder Forest Ospreys has returned to her nest. At 11:50 today Mrs YA was seen on her nest, Nest 1A. Her partner, YA, disappeared last July so she may well have to attract a her partner.
