Strange Noises In The Night

Can anybody help please? We're currently staying on a lovely CL in The Lincolnshire Wolds, on a farm, with fields all around.
Each night, very close to the side of the caravan, in the early hours, we've heard what can only be described as the noise a baby alligator makes. (The throat like hiccups, usually four in a row)
Intrigued, we decided to put our camera trap out over night to see what it is..... (We were thinking badgers or muntjac deers)............with excitement we brought the camera in this morning to find it had taken 16 photographs.........only to find two hares and my OH topping the water barrels up!
Has anybody heard hares make this strange noise or can you advise?

Nightlife is probably just as busy as daylight life, probably more so? What sort of camera are you using? It's been interesting reading this thread, I'll look forward to your next overnight camera adventure! smile

I completely agree with Brue's thoughts , have never thought of setting up a camera trap , will have to look into it. Thanks for the idea 😁😁.

Brue & Trellis, we bought the camera off the internet. It's an Ltl Acorn 6210MC. 12 Mega pixels game and trail camera. Just like the ones you see Simon King using on wildlife documentarys. It's motion activated and records pictures or video. You can set it up to take as 1,2 or 3 pictures every so many seconds or minutes. It's battery operated so easy to set up anywhere with a small viewing screen to replay anything recorded. We replay the pictures on the laptop, as its a bigger screen to identify the images. Day time pictures are in colour and very good. Night time pictures are taken in infrared and are therefore black and white. It's a "no  glo" flash so it has no visible light to scare the wildlife off when it's activated. Prices online are around £144.

We bought it for our garden and caught pictures of the hedgehogs and local cat population! But after this week it will be packed to go away in the caravan every time. We only tend to visit rural CLs so we'll keep you posted on the activities after dark.
