The very first wildlife trust was conceived in Norfolk and came into being 90 years ago on 6 March 1926 when 12 gentlemen purchased 435 acres of Cley marshes with the idea of creating a bird breeding sanctuary for all time. The same gentlemen purchased a number of different sites within the county with varying habitats from costal to woodland and Breckland. From these relative small and local beginnings there are now 47 county wildlife trusts country wide. Norfolk WT will be holding various activities throughout the year to celebrate the milestone.
