Just seen my first beatle of the year. Coch Y Bonddu ( Red back with black stubby legs) hatches in the uplands and braken covered hills here in Wales. It is our equivalent of the Chalk Streams Mayfly as far as fishing is concerned. Not a good flyer and hatches on still hot heavy days akin to thundery. The upland trout switch on to them to the exclusion of any other food.So the next few weeks will see me wild M/H in the Elan Valleys and other remote uplands parts of Wales so wont be taking up all those spare out of seaon pitches on CC sites.
