For the last few days I have noticed dozens, if not hundreds, of what I think are wild bees (not bumble bees), flying over a patch of our garden. It is an area of about 6 feet x 3 feet which has approximately 30% bare soil. The bees are flying about an inch or two above the ground. Some settle on the soil for 1 or 2 seconds and then fly off again but keeping within the approximate area. They don't appear to have a nest within the various plants, heuchera and fuchsias. About 10 feet away there is another smaller area with bees doing the same but different plants. They exhibit this behaviour all through the day.
Anybody know what might be going on?
