Two in a row for Peter Sagan!

It was great to see him win the World Championship last year after a poor season results wise. Yes he is maturing nicely.

chapau to Lizzie Armistead too, for winning the womens Flanders

I do wish that the BBC would get over their current fad for building up women's sports. It was reported by them today that Lizzie Armisted had won the Tour of Flanders. What she actually won was a very watered down version of the real thing.

I don't disagree, re the stature of the womens races, but good to see a local lass doing well.

i don't wish to sound un PC, but how many people actually watch womens cricket or football, or disabled sport for that matter. The coverage is completely disproportionate.

i had to laugh watching a clip of womens cricket in the week. There was no one in the stadium, it looked completely empty.

Sagan is superb, a great all rounder and a real entertainer. 

We have been to a lot of British Cycling events, and I can assure you that the womens events are very well supported, just as exciting as the men's races. We went to Manchester velodrome to see a round of indoor racing. Biggest star of the night was Laura Trott, won both her races, easily, is by far the most likely GB cycling contender to come home with a medal, as is Lizzie Armistead. They are just as talented, driven, competitive and brave as the men. What they don't get is the support and sponsorship that the men do. Hence fewer races, shorter races, and let's not forget that some of the countries where cycling is big are not exactly female friendly when it comes to a level sporting playing field. Twenty years on from some of the greats of Tennis, Navratilova etc.. And the women are still fighting for parity in a male dominated sports world.

Take your point TtDA although I know nothing about track cycling.

My point was though that this is one of the oldest established and toughest races on the professional circuit and was celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.

The women's event has only been going a few years, covers about half the distance and excludes the toughest climbs.

So when the (female) sports reporter for the BBC said this morning that Lizzie had "won the Tour of Flanders" and then, almost as an after-thought, mentioned that Peter Sagan had won "the men's version of the race"!!!!!.......makes my blood boil!
