How's your footy team doing?

I'm starting this thread again because it seems to have been a casualty of the change over to the new site. The Terriers scecured another away win last night at Burton. Two wins in a row now after a barren spell. It'll all go pear shaped on Friday when we go to Norwich because the game is to be televised , we haven't won on the telly for ages.

That would be sweet. I remember when they went out of business. Do I remember rightly that they were the first club to do so?

Posted on 14/04/2018 20:27

Absolutely correct. Founder member of the football league too.

Good  Luck  with  that  one,  Jonray,  you'll  still  be  welcome  at  Gresty  Road,  though  for  your  regular  supply  of  Quality  Football  Fodder  i.e.  Fish 'n  Chips  innocent

Thank you Brian but sadly our promotion (although on hold for another weekend) will mean no further visits to Gresty road, well, at least not for one season!

Gather round me young and old

A tragic tale I will unfold

A tale that's known to you and me

A tale of Chesterfield FC.

For years it's been our one ambition

To see them in a higher division

But now, alas, our hopes are low

They're at the bottom, and rightly so

For hours and hours in pouring rain

We watch and pray but all in vain

Same old story, same old tale

Open goals and shots that fail.

Oh, Chesterfield, give up the ghost

Plough up the field, saw down the post

Take down the flags, pull down the Stand

And let us cultivate the land

Then let us all with one accord

On bended knees implore the Lord

Prepare the pitch up there in Heaven

And sacrifice the whole eleven.

So  Sad  a  Tale,  K & M  !!  cry

I  remember  those  years  in  the 50's,  before  automatic  relegation  became  the  norm,  when  Crewe  Alex  went  so  very  regularly,  on  bended  knees  to  implore  anybody  who  would  listen  that  they  were  worthy  of  staying  in  the  League,  Division  Three  North  !!

Re-election  was,  for  Crewe  &  a  few  other  sides,  rather  like  the  annual  visit  to  Prestatyn  by  train,  for  a  holiday  in  one  of  those  chalet  thingies  modelled  on  up  market   WW 2  prison of war  camps  !!  Oh  yes  I  remember  them  well.

Just  go  thro  the  non-league  tables  &  see  those  that  never  made  it  back,  like  Bradford  PA,  Southport  etc  etc.

But  As  Roger  Papgeno  keeps  telling  me  --  " Have  faith "

OOOOPS   embarassed,

Sorry  I  forgot  to  make  the  obvious  comment  there,  K & M :-

If  there  is  nobody  or  Club  willing  to  be  bottom  of  a  League  Or  other  Competition,  then  there  cannnot  be  any  such  league  etc  anyway.

Fizz in the fridge, flag in the window!

Who'd have thought it!

And congrats to The Wolves on their promotion.

Think I'll take the flag down in the morning or the parish council will accuse me of lowering the tone of the village 😱

Who would have thought it? After denying their arch-rivals a week ago, United hand the title to City!

"Funny old game, Saint"

Congratulations to Man City, probably the most deserved winners of the Premiership ever.

Looking forward to seeing how Derek Dougan's old side get on next season too 🏆

And  don't  you  take  too  much  for  granted  JonRay  !!

I  think  you've  got  Yeovil  this  week  and,  even  tho'  they  are  not  doingtoo  well,  they  did  thrash  Coventry  by  6  and  that  was  away  as  well.

"Uneasy  Lies  The  Crown"  well  at  least  'til  the  Trophy's  in  the  display  case  cool

Oh no Brian - would never count my chickens and if it goes "pear shaped" on Tuesday night, we can look forward to another difficult tie on Saturday! (Away to 3rd placed Wycombe)

Come on Stanley!!!
