Football & The Law

It's just been announced on local news that Bristol Rovers have launched a legal challenge against their relegation from the football league, citing "third party ownership" of one of Wycombe's players (Wycombe finished ahead of Rovers on goal difference at the end of the season).

Of course, as a loyal Rovers supporter for over 50 years nothing woud give me greater pleasure than to see them back in the league, but I can't help feeling uneasy at this legalistic approach. Seems to smack a bit of sour grapes to me and I'd rather see them concentrate on rebuilding the team to try to get promotion back at the first attempt.

If any rules have been broken then I suppose there should be reprisals - but it just seems like another sign of the way sport has deteriorated over the past few years. Very sad, I think.
