With the opening race in Australia this weekend, anyone have any thoughts for this year, or is it going to be another boring procession, like last year?

See that Daniel Ricciardo will be leaving RBR at the end of 2018 to join Renault.  Not really surprised, good luck to him.

Seems a strange move to me given that had it not been for the reliability of Renault engines Red Bull would have been in the mix for the Constructors Championship at least! The guys at Red Bull were shocked, particularly as it seems a backward move. I suspect it was down to money and an unwillingness to match the pay of Max despite Daniel having more points this season and last. I suppose it feasible that Renault hope to have significant improvements for next year and want a driver who will be in the mix rather than mid table. Renault have won championships in the past. Another thing in the mix is the complete breakdown of the relationship between Renault and Red Bull over the last couple of years, perhaps Renault see this as getting their own back!!! He is a likeable chap so I hope he does well.

RBR are third in the championship with Renault one place behind. As a racing team are in their 3 year.  There is no doubt that Renault have ambition and I suspect RBR/Honda will struggle for a couple of years. Although RBR probably currently have the best areo package with future rule changes that could/may change.  With the Hulk and Daniel I’m sure point scoring will raise significantly

Renault might be one place behind but that 4th place is a long way back from 3rd. Currently Red Bull are on 223 points and Renault on 82 points which is only 16 points ahead of Haas. So even with Daniel they have a long way to climb. The is no doubt that the Renault engine is good when it's reliable but reliability is the big question mark. What will be even more interesting is how the Honda engine does. There have been some encouraging signs from the Toro Rosso especially Pierre Gasly and it will be interesting to see if he steps up to the senior team next year?

So Fernando Alonso has decided to retire from F1 at the end of the season.

I was just wondering who is next in line age wise?

Kimi, he gives the impression that he could walk away at any moment

he has had a test drive in the Toyota world rally car ,so he could go there

Looks like Kimi will sign a 2 year contract with Ferrari  very shortly.  He has driven pretty well this year

I just wish Aston Martin would produce a world-beating engine and stick it in a Williams
