Why tell the world you have won £33 million?

Can anyone understand the logic behind announcing to  the World via TV and press that you won the  big lottery? Have they not just set themselves up for potential kidnapping?

I would have said nothing to anybody and in six months time admitted to close relatives that we had won 1.5 million

That's because he remembered me today. How much Learjet can you get for twenty five quid?

I think the sad thing about a mega win is that the recipient, in order to avoid the begging letter/freeloader/ sick aunty operation problem is to break with old acquaintances and they end up moving in totally new circles. As I've posted before, creates as many problems as it solves.

A fortune teller once told me that I'd never be rich, but I would always be comfortable, although I would have to earn every penny.  As the years go by I feel I need to take issue with her definition of comfortable, though! I did once win a yoghurt maker in a tombola. I'm fairly certain that this publicity dilemma will never be mine... Don't cry

It's the thought of the tax I'd be paying on the invested money that would upset me.  Even at 1% return it would be around £150k per year.

In todays paper it seems they are going to help out with the local flood victims, nice to hear.

Last night OH and me talked about what we would do if we won that amount of money, we didn't get much further than about 5 millionFrown the rest we decided would have to be given away. With that in mind we feel that these huge payouts would be better spread out among the other winners, ie 5 numbers etc. that way giving more people a nice win.
